FAQ - Top Asked Model/Skin Related Questions

There quite a few issues and questions that get asked alot within the Modeling/Skinning world, this is a list of the most common question with there anwser

  • What does all the P_ and R_ mean in Weapons Models?
In total there are 4 types of weapon model varients you can have
V_ = (View) What you view on your screen in there can be left, right or both
P_ = (Player) What you seeing in the hands of other characters
W_ = (World) What you see when lying on the ground

  • What Does "This Server is enforcing File Consistancy" mean?
Around about the release of CS 1.0 a Valve patch was released that included a check routine that checked to see if you P_ file you were using a spike hack model that cheaters were using which showed the location of players, even if they were hiding, this in theory was a good idea but it also often caused errors to legitamate models. We are still waiting to see if this will get fixed soon, but We recommend that any skins you install that have P_ model that you back up you Model dir first, this saves heartache later.

  • How do you create the models???
There two program most used to create the models they are 3D Studio Max, which is a high end ,expensive but powerful 3D modeling package and MilkShape, a smaller and cheaper package that does the same job but does not have all the bells and whistles of Max.

  • How do i install models and skins?
Some Zip files have the paths already unpack to this is usally done from within the /cstrike directory. If not with in the /cstrike directory there is a dir called /models, depending if you are installing a weapon or a player, is important as all the players models have there own seperate dirs, while you can just extract the weapons models to the /models dir.
